Runners from across the UK sign up for Caerphilly 10k

The inaugural Caerphilly 10k has already attracted 870 people to sign up for the event, which is taking place on June 23rd. The numbers are rising on a daily basis and appealing to runners from across the UK, showcasing Caerphilly as a destination to a national audience.

With runners signing up from a great breadth of the UK, we are looking forward to providing a warm welsh welcome to runners from the Southwest, including entrants from Bristol, Bath and Weston Super Mare, the Southeast with runners from Maidenhead and Lewes and the Midlands with participants from Kidderminster, Southport and Warwick.

Cllr Harry Andrews, Leader of the Council said, “I am delighted that the inaugural Caerphilly 10k event has attracted so many participants – from so far and wide. It is events such as this which allow us to showcase all that our county borough has to offer, and through bringing many visitors into the county borough, help give the local economy a major boost”.

With a busy events programme Caerphilly County Borough Council is committed to the development of the County Borough as a key destination and is driven towards encouraging people to utilise our Town Centres. We are looking forward to establishing the Caerphilly 10k will establish itself as a regular event and encourage visitors to return year on year to enjoy the rich catalogue of activities, accommodation and attractions that we have to offer.

Local runners have rallied behind the event with around 280 participants signing up from within the Caerphilly basin and a further 80 from Cardiff and RCT.

We are encouraging entrants to bring along the whole family to support them from the grassed area near the start/finishing line on Crescent Road. The family can then enjoy the various activities on offer from our Sports Development Team including Hoola Hooping and Street Rugby, have a spot of lunch in the Town and then explore Britain’s second largest Castle.
