Choose YOUR High Street this Christmas

Saturday 28th November – Thursday 24th December 2020

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Events and Marketing Team is looking at ways to boost trade in our town centres this winter.

With Christmas on the horizon and COVID-19 placing a strain on so many businesses, this is an ideal time to focus our attention on encouraging people to shop locally this winter. As you will probably be aware, there are no Christmas Markets or Winter Fairs being hosted by Caerphilly Council this year due to COVID-19, however we are keen to attract visitors to our town centres and help strengthen the ‘Shop Local’ and ‘Shop Safe’ messages.

The aim of the 2020 ‘Choose YOUR High Street this Christmas’ campaign is to assist retailers to bring the Christmas Market shopping experience to our community. We want to encourage residents to explore each of our 6 key town centres (Bargoed, Blackwood, Caerphilly, Newbridge, Risca and Ystrad Mynach) and discover the fantastic selection of unique independent retailers and big names that adorn our local high streets.

Let’s encourage our residents to Shop Locally, Shop Safely and Choose YOUR High Street this winter!

There is a designated web page as well as a Facebook event, hosted by CCBC and Visit Caerphilly, aimed at actively promoting the campaign. These two Facebook accounts alone boast over 37,000 followers. Here is the link – https://www.facebook.com/events/318706686101015

In order to create an interesting and engaging campaign we are looking for a mixture of online and in-store offers to make it inclusive for all, whether shopping online or in our town centres.

The scheme is FREE to participate in and will run from Saturday 28th November until Thursday 24th December 2020. The campaign is available for all town centre businesses – from cafes and restaurants to hairdressers and general retail stores including both chain and independent stores.

It is evidenced that businesses who submit strong offers see the highest number of vouchers redeemed. Examples of how a voucher could work include, but are not restricted to: a percentage off all products, a percentage off a particular product line, a percentage off when you spend a certain amount, a free gift when a particular amount is spent or a buy one get one free offer.

At this stage, if you would like to be involved in this campaign please post your special offers direct to the ‘Choose YOUR High Street this Christmas’ Facebook event page. We really hope you will participate in this campaign and see it as a positive message to the local community, whilst trying to help support local businesses.
