When Civil War broke out between King and Parliament in 1642 Colonel Edward Prichard was appointed Commissioner of Array to the King, raising men and money for the Royalist cause in Glamorganshire.
By the middle of 1645 support was waning and King Charles I came on a rallying tour through South Wales and visited Llancaiach Fawr for lunch on 5th August. Shortly afterwards the Prichards and many other Glamorgan gentry changed sides to support Parliament and Colonel Prichard subsequently fought at the battle of St Fagan’s against the Royalists. And became Governor of Cardiff Castle.
Today visitors can enjoy a visit to the Manor House gardens, newly installed interactive exhibition, gift shop, cafe and Conservatory Restaurant. Light lunches and snacks are available in the cafe Tuesday – Sunday.
Sunday lunch is available every Sunday in the Conservatory Restaurant pre-booking required also Take Away Sunday lunches pre-ordering required call 01443 412248

In a poll Llancaiach Fawr was named as one of the Top Ten most haunted buildings in Britain. Strange things have been experienced in almost every room, along corridors and upon stairs. Things seen, heard or felt, or sometimes odours in the air of violets or lavender – and on some occasions, roast beef!
