The eyes of the cycling world will turn to the Caerphilly county borough in one year\u2019s time, when the Tour de France comes to Wales.<\/p>\n

Excitement is building ahead of the largest free sporting spectacle in British history.<\/p>\n

Wales will play a central role in the 2027 Tour de France, with stage three of the men\u2019s race starting in Welshpool in Powys and finishing in Cardiff on Sunday 4 July 2027, passing through some of the region\u2019s most scenic and challenging climbs, including the C\u00f4te de Rhigos and C\u00f4te de Caerffili in the final kilometres.<\/p>\n

Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Leader of Caerphilly Council said, \u201cWe are absolutely delighted to get the opportunity to welcome this global sporting event to the county borough next summer. We look forward to welcoming elite competitors from across the globe, who will be racing through our towns and villages before tackling the iconic climb up Caerphilly Mountain.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are determined to ensure such a major sporting event will deliver significant economic and social benefits to the Caerphilly county borough. We also want to give residents and businesses plenty of notice about the need for extensive road closures on the day, so everyone needs to plan ahead ready for the big event.\u201d<\/p>\n

Welsh Government Cabinet Minister for Culture and Sport Heledd Fychan added, “We can\u2019t wait to welcome the Tour de France in 2027 to Wales.\u00a0 It will be an excellent opportunity to showcase some of the great cycling routes we have here to the whole world.\u00a0 It will benefit sport, tourism and the wider economy, and we must maximise that.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a proud cycling heritage and a passionate fanbase, so we are thrilled to play our part in the Grand D\u00e9part GB celebrations this summer.\u00a0 I\u2019d encourage everyone who can to get involved, and make the most of this once-in\u2013a-generation opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n
