Taff Valley Activity Centre Café (Wales Activity Breaks) – Cwrt y Gegin Coffee Shop

Cwrt y Gegin (Welsh for Courtyard Kitchen) is a small outdoor café owned and run by Maggie Smith situated on the Egwlysilan mountain between Abertridwr and Rhydyfelin and adjacent to the Taff Valley Buggy Trail Activity Centre.

The café, which is open during the week and weekends between 10.00am and 4.00pm, caters primarily for customers of the Activity Centre but, being just half a mile above the Taff Trail, it is an ideal refreshment stop not only for walkers and cyclists using the Taff Trail but also for those individuals and families using Eglwysilan mountain for exercise and recreation.  In addition, the café has an external seating area for 30 people which provides views overlooking the Rhondda Valleys and, on a clear day, Cardiff.

Cwrt y Gegin provides a selection of freshly prepared food (hot and cold) and non-alcoholic drinks, with cooked breakfasts, pre-ordered packed lunches and snacks proving popular.  With the external seating area it is also a popular venue for children’s birthday parties.

Although the pre-ordering of packed lunches or other refreshments is not required experience has shown it can avoid lengthy waits at particularly busy times and it is to be recommended.  Similarly, it is advisable to pre-book if you intend visiting the café and wish to secure a table in the external seating area.
