Blackwood High Street was brimming with festive cheer as local businesses showcased their creativity in CCBC’s annual town centre Christmas Window Dressing Competition.

Growing Space have been crowned the winners of the 2025 competition, impressing judges with their vibrant display depicting a bustling Santa’s workshop!

Growing Space is a charity founded in 1992, supporting individuals with ill mental health, autism, or a learning disability to build confidence, develop social skills and improve quality of life through the provision of therapeutic training, vocational skills, creativity and work experience throughout their Gwent sites.

Located at 199 High Street, Growing Space’s social enterprise shop opened in Blackwood in November 2020 and highlights the creativity and talents of participants from across their Growing Space projects. Managed by Lynn Mears, the shop offers a wide selection of unique giftware, handcrafted and upcycled items, and homeware.

When informed that Growing Space had been selected as the Blackwood winner, Lynn said:

“It is wonderful that the inspiration and planning of the team of staff, volunteers and participants who all had input in the window display has been recognised. We are a small charity who see the value in everyone that we support and give them an opportunity to become part of the team both in our shop and in creating items to sell. This gives everyone an immense sense of pride and self-worth. I cannot wait to share with everyone through the week.”

Also recognised for their efforts were Woolleys Florist at 118 High Street, who received the Highly Commended award for a second consecutive year, along with last year’s winners, Kismet Blackwood at 5 The Pier, Hall Street, who were also Highly Commended once again for their entry.

Congratulations to Lynn and all her staff and volunteers at Growing Space, together with all participating businesses across the town centre, for bringing festive cheer and creativity to Blackwood this Christmas!
