John Godber’s Bouncers portrays a typical 1980s working-class Saturday night, focusing on the four bouncers of a disco and the various groups of young people they encounter, shifting perspectives between the bouncers and the club-goers.
The play depicts the characters’ preparations for the night, the “lads” and “lasses” enjoying themselves on the dance floor, and the bouncers’ strict but ultimately often brutal job of controlling entry and dealing with unruly patrons, all in a hilarious but also serious look at British nightlife.
