Congratulations to Barnardo’s who were recently crowned the winners of the Bargoed Christmas Window Dressing Competition 2024!
Judges were impressed with the effort and level of detail that had gone into the two displays on offer, which included penguin teddies, a railway track with moving train and wintry alpine setting and maximised the use of the window space.
Bargoed Barnardo’s is run by a team of volunteers and led by store manager Jude Voyle, who is local to Bargoed and will be celebrating 40 years of working in the shop in 2025. Barnardo’s have over 600 shops nationwide and the Bargoed store sells lots of great donated and new goods to help raise vital funds to make a real difference to disadvantaged children, young people and families across the UK. Bargoed Barnardo’s, which is located on the High Street, runs a number of community initiatives and fundraising activities throughout the year, promotes the annual Poppy Appeal, and has an active presence during the town centre’s spring, summer and winter fairs via their mascot Lucky the Dog (aka deputy manager Louise Ross)
When informed that Barnardo’s had been selected as the Bargoed winner, Jude said “We are absolutely thrilled! We enjoy doing the windows every year for different events because it is so much appreciated by our customers. It’s the least we can do because of the wonderful support we get from the Bargoed community and surrounding villages, and I really can’t thank them enough”.
Barnardo’s are always looking for volunteers to add to their staff, so if you are interested in contributing to the work of the shop or getting involved in the community, even if you can only spare a few hours a week, please pop into the shop or call 01443 837136.
