The festive season brought extra magic to Blackwood and Risca town centres as local children took part in special Christmas Elf Trails organised by CCBC’s Town Centre Team.

Running from 21st November to 13th December, the trails invited children and their families to hunt for Santa’s mischievous elves hiding in local shops.  Participants collected free maps and activity sheets from local libraries and other venues before setting off to explore the town centres and discover the hidden elves in 10 shops in each town.  Each participant received a pack of chocolates or sweets for taking part and were also entered into a prize draw to win some Christmas prizes!

In Blackwood, Amber was chosen as the overall winner of the Blackwood Elf Trail and received a selection box kindly donated by Blackwood Town Council, together with a book generously donated by Blackwood Library.  Meanwhile, Liam and Ella were selected as runners up and also received a selection box from the Town Council for taking part!  In Risca, Charlie was drawn as the winner of the Risca Elf Trail and received a special festive goodie bag and a voucher from local Risca business Sofa & Coffee to thank him for taking part.  All winners also received a special certificate to mark their efforts.

The Elf Trails were part of a wider programme of Christmas town centre activities arranged by CCBC’s Town Centre Team, aimed at boosting footfall during the Christmas period across the principal towns of Bargoed, Blackwood, Caerphilly, Risca and Ystrad Mynach, whilst promoting local shopping and supporting local businesses.

CCBC would like to thank all participating businesses, families and town councils for making this year’s Elf Trails a magical success!  A special thank you is also extended to the staff at Blackwood and Risca Library for facilitating the activities by acting as the drop-off point for the Elf Trail entries, handing out chocolates/sweets as a reward for taking part, and encouraging local children to participate in the activity.
