A family run bed and breakfast steeped in history and hidden in the Welsh Valleys has been awarded the title ‘Highly Commended’ in the New Business category at the Cardiff Life Awards.
Completed in 1931 and Purchased in 2017 by owners Howard and Cath, Gellihaf house is a moment in history that is captured perfectly.
Situated in Blackwood, the House was almost destined to be owned by Howard and Cath, Howard was local to the area and familiar with the house. He left Wales to join the army with no intentions of returning. After 32 years’ service, that is exactly what he did. After meeting wife Cath, they saw the house was on the market and immediately fell in love with it. Cath later came to find that she is in fact related to the family who owned the house, almost 80 years previous.
Its style reflects the ‘Arts and Crafts’ movement and Howard and Cath have restored every area of the property back to its former glory, while adding in modern touches such as fully fitted and luxurious bathrooms in the guest rooms.
Guests of the manor can expect a beautiful breakfast that uses all local produce and Gellihaf also offers an afternoon tea that has become renowned for its homemade sweet treats.
Both Howard and Cath have dedicated themselves to restoring this beautiful property, and their hard work is mirrored by their infectious personalities. You will receive the warmest of welcomes on arrival and become completely immersed in the atmosphere created by your two hosts.
For all of these reasons, the couple have been recognised at the Cardiff Life 2019 awards and Gellihaf House has also been listed in the Great Little Places Guide created by Welsh Rarebits.
Whether you are an avid cyclist, walker or simply looking for a retreat – Gellihaf House has everything you need.
