Thousands visited Caerphilly Town Centre on Saturday 4th July to celebrate this year’s Pride Caerffili.
The family-friendly event, hosted by the much-loved Miss Tina Sparkle, recognised and celebrated the contributions made by LGBTQ+ people in our community with an iconic Pride Parade and plenty of live music and entertainment to keep the festivities going all day.
Footfall counters recorded over 2,300 visitors in the town centre across the day as it came alive with colour. Local businesses, community organisations, food, drink and market stalls also helped to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere whilst joining in the fun.
Joanne Galazka, Women’s and Equalities Officer at Unite Wales, said “Saturday was the best pride to date. Bigger and better than previous years and the atmosphere was really positive and vibrant. The need for us to come together is more important than ever to support our communities and LGBTQ+ members. The number of conversations we had with young people and all generations on Saturday highlighted the impact our presence has on communities like Caerphilly. It was so many people’s first experience of Pride, and we are proud to play a small part in that. People also expressing they felt safe and supported to be their authentic selves.
Unite Wales are so proud to work in partnership with the council to make it happen as they always make it community focused as it should be. Pride is a protest and positive visibility on our streets is essential at a time of division.”
Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Leader of Council, commented “Possibly the biggest and best Pride Caerffili we have ever had. Absolutely buzzing and positive atmosphere, as ever. We will be starting preparations for Pride 2027 very soon. Onwards and upwards!”
